What other costs are involved?

MyBookBuilder is a one-pay purchase, which gives you access to the features that make building your book easy.

The app uses both Claude (for the text of your stories) and ChatGPT (for the images for your stories). You will need to set up API accounts with Anthropic (for Claude) and OpenAI (for ChatGPT) and they will charge you a small amount for the writing and image-making. You will have to deposit a small amount to fund the API usage ($10 to $20, with instructions to charge more as your account balance is depleted). The charges depend mainly on the number of chapters for your book, and the length of each chapter. In my experience, you will be paying around 20 cents or so for each chapter which includes both Claude and ChatGPT charges.

You will not need to establish a monthly account with either platform if you have no other reason to do so, outside of MyBookBuilder.

If you absolutely cannot set up your own APIs for Anthropic and OpenAI (for example you don’t have a credit card and need to pay by PayPal), let me know and I can set up a monthly payment option, but you would save money by “paying as you go” to Anthropic and OpenAI with a credit card.
